I have 32GB of RAM in my Mac Pro and I got the RAM from Superbiiz, it was a steal compared to OWC and Apple's prices. It looks like they have the RAM for $137 (http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=D3-13R8GH1&title=Hynix-DDR3-1333-8GB-ECC-REG-Original-Server-Memory) per 8GB stick, so that'd be just shy of $1100 plus tax and shipping.

Good price.. except it seems Superbiiz only provides a 30-day repair/replacement warranty. After which, it's up to the manufacturer if they'll repair/replace the item. In this case, Hynix... who apparently don't talk to consumers about RMA - they only talk to the sellers. So.. uh.. well, they may or may not replace it.

Buying from OWC/Transintl provide a lifetime warranty.

So.. risk versus less risk... or cheaper vs expensive.

I don't know what the result of using both 'default host' *and* individual port mapping is, but at best it's undefined. I'd suggest using one or the other. I have no issues with Snow Leopard Server and an old Airport Extreme using port mapping (no default host). Default host is just exposing your machine to probes on every port in existence.

Some simple debugging: try telnetting from some other machine on your local network to your server port 25, e.g. 'telnet 192.168.1.2 25'. If you get connected to SMTP then your problem is elsewhere (barring some firewall rules you might have manually configured in your server). If you don't get connected then the problem is the server and you have to figure out why SMTP isn't listening.

If you can telnet to your server on the inside, but not from the outside then you have either a router problem or an ISP problem. As for my old Airport Extreme, I found that upgrading to the latest firmware (7.5.2) caused no end of problems, I downgraded to the previous version (7.4.2) and all is well.

    A.

I guess I'm confused on how that is steering in a different direction, your thread isn't based on one certain case....

Pay no mind, my friend jumped on my computer and started trolling all over the place. BOTTOM LINE: posts were not me, don't care, go ahead.

If I use time machine to back all my Snow Leopard files up can I then restore them all into Lion or will this not work? Anybody try it yet?

Previously you could so I don't expect that will change. Depending on whether you are using "Time Capsule" or another WiFi implementation or directly connected, open your "Time Machine" drive and .dmg (if it's WiFi) and then select the drive in "System Preferences". Lion should open it up and update it, which may take a while wirelessly, it's always best to use an ethernet connection when making a first backup or change.

    Congratulations! I hate you. :D

As for the mouse, I recommend the Kensington PocketMouse Pro - the wired one. It's USB cable retracts completely. It's a two-button scroll and zero config. Plug'n go.

There is a wireless version, but personally I don't want to deal with the batteries or the possibility of losing the tranceiver.

If you want less of a traveler, and more of a desktopper, you can do the Kensington Studio Mouse, or my personal UberMouse, the Logitech MX700

No. The vast majority of 2011 MBP users are having no issues. People come to a forum because they have an issue. It happens every time there is an update. For every one that has a problem there are hundreds others who have no problems.

Go for it and enjoy your new MBP.

What are the best web hosting/service sites to upload iWeb designs?

I think this just refers to what is the best web host.... because at the end of the day your just uploading it via FTP.

However, i suppose MobileMe, would be the one that people would suggest... and that's because it is 'built in'.

I done a quick google, and a site that come up multiple times was BlueHost (http://www.bluehost.com/) but i don't know if they are actually any good.

    Hello everyone!

I am wondering if somebody could help me. For the last 3 months I have been working on creating an animated stopmotion film. I have created the real 3D sets, done the clay figures and shot the still images. As I am not very good with computers and all the settings that there are, I just imported every single image from iPhoto into Imovie and changed the time lapse for each image to 0,2 and thats how I created the animated film. It looks good, but since the film is now over 5 min long, the software (or can it be my computer?)gets really slow. Sometimes I cant even watch the video, and definitely not in the full size mode, just on a small video image in imovie.
I am getting really stressed about this now since I have put so much work into it and just want to finish the project (maybe add another 2 more min) and export it to a dvd with as good quality as possible.

I started to read about imovie and discovered it isnt supposed to be used for stopmotion. So.. I just got istopmotion and did a small test reimporting just onescene, then trying to export it, and importing it into imovie (i like using imovie because of all the possibilities of playing around with contrasts and colors)
But now the quality of the images looks really bad. It isnt at all as sharp as before. I have tried so many different settings while exporting from istopmotion, but it doesnt seem to make much difference. I am working in 4:3 ration, and the best option seems to be HD ( but in 16:9 only) so that doesnt seem to work.

Does anybody have any advice for me?
Should I use a completely different software for this and start from scratch?
Or is there maybe just some small trick that I am missing??

I would be very thankful for help!

    Lia

Don't use with MacRumor's page; MRLive automatically refreshes.

Yes, please no one use this on MRLive, I expect it'll already be a bit slow and there's no need to make it slower by taking things into your own hands.

Enabling multi-touch gestures isn't related to jailbreak. You can do one without doing the other.

    Mac or Windows?

The multi-gestures I'm referring to in the beta were the four finger gestures Apple did not release in the 4.3 GM. Gestures such as pinching in and out, four finger up/down swipes, etc. Activator in JB isn't as seamless as the beta gestures.

Yeah i really like those sites that convert music from youtube into mp3 format. They shut down limewire but not those sites? Go figure!

How limewire actually got shut down is still a complete mystery to me. It's an application that allows users to utilise the gnutella P2P network, it's not a 'service' itself. If limewire got shut down, why not uTorrent/Transmission/Deluge, unless I'm missing something they're doing the exact same thing that limewire were, but on a different protocol.

One really huge difference between Apple suing someone over a patent, versus Microsoft, Nokia, Kodak or others doing so, is that at least the latter seem willing to license their patents.

Has Apple ever licensed their technology to others? (Excepting the clones way back when.)

Fedora Core 4 now has support for PowerPC. Presumably this means Mac. Don't ask me for any more details as that's all I know.

To the left of 'Song Name' in the main iTunes window there should be a narrow column with an arrow in it pointing downwards. Click the arrow and it should change to pointing upwards. Your music should now play in the correct order!
