If this is true, and does come out on Aug. 7th, I'll be saying farewell to my New Sidekick 3.

SUPER PSYCHED for cloud features married with iOS! With this, the iPad can truely become a post-pc mobile computer without the need to sync with clunky old iTunes! DO IT UP BIG APPLE!! :)

Counting down the days till I can completely ditch my laptop for an iPad!

I don't think an iPad could ever make me ditch my MacBook Pro.

Jobs finally delivered on his 3 Ghz promise! ;) :D :D

With the Wicked cooling system that I'm sure these beasts have. It won't be long until some fool writes a firmware patch that boosts the output up to 4G's at least.

Nope Apple is the ruler of all.

The master of the universe and the company that knows better than you do.

    Just notice how they act.

What they censor and how hypocritical they are.

Only Uncle Steve can give you permission and he's never going to do that.

He's GOD according to many fanboys here...

All Hail Apple! (no special symbols needed). :) ha ha ha ha ha:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

The problem is that people want to think of an iPhone as a PC. They apply PC analogies and logic. However the reality is that the cell industry has more in common with appliances or consoles. It's traditionally a heavily curated environment.

Apple: Start with a "restricted" system and open it up to allow for PC like advantages. (The App Store is an example of this)

Google: Start with an "open" system and lock it down to meet carrier needs and leverage the advantages of curation. (The Google Market place is an example of this)

Woot WWDC is getting close ... just gotta pack my bags and drive up on Sunday, should be an interesting week (over 1/3 of the sessions are still marked as to be announced, historically many of those relate to new technologies).

Apple *have* patented the look of icons: http://www.edibleapple.com/apple-granted-eu-patents-on-24-ios-icon-designs/ and Samsung clearly infringes on them.

(I'm not sure if a similar, US patent exists.)
You can't patent the "look" of an icon in the U.S.
    You copyright it.
And I'd seriously doubt many of them would survive a court challenge.

I am hopeful that we will see a new video iPod alongside a movie store debut.
My hopes exactly. It's definitely going to be the addition of movies to iTMS. New iPods? They're due aren't they? Might as well roll them out, I wouldnt put it past SJ...

[/SIZE]Merom won't be going away in 2007. So no yutz need apply for next mobile processor amticipation duty all of next year, unless of course you mean the 4 core Mobile version of Merom coming next Fall '07. :)And Santa Rosa will add to Merom's Power next Spring. That's what I'm waiting for as well. :)

I was wondering where you heard that there is going to be a 4 core mobile version of Merom coming Fall '07. Any roadmaps i've read for intel, including that one you linked to (and the Tom's Hardware one) don't mention it. In fact, I didn't even read of a desktop 4 core processor being released until let alone 2007 in a laptop.

I'm wondering where you heard this because I'm getting a MBP for college next summer and if there were quad core MBPs coming out in the fall I would wait.

(Oh, and if I misinterpreted 4 cores to equal Quad core on a single processor, please clarify what you meant.)

I've had the service for over 4 years and I have never paid full price.
I would not mind if they lowered the price to say $49/annually or even tiered pricing, but all out free scares me a little.

At 10% unemployment, I don't know many people who would scoff at a job these days.

And, it isn't that illegal immigrants do jobs that people "wouldn't be caught dead doing" -- it's that they do jobs that people wouldn't be caught dead doing for below minimum wage. There are plenty of Americans who would pick fruit or clean buildings for a fair wage -- they just don't get the opportunity because an immigrant will do the job for cash at poverty wages.

    Yeah, that's true.

What's the solution though? Living in Arizona I hear about this issue ALL THE TIME on the news, and it seems like there are many different pros and cons to any potential solution they come up with.

I have installed this and am running it now but I do have 1.75 TB of data on my drives to go through, I will update this when the scan is complete.

It all looks nice and simple anyway so far.

    :)

5 hours of scanning 2.4 million files ......

    1 virus.

And what was it...... An old rar file back up of a piece of windows software.

    All cleaned up now......

This is excellent evidence Apple is not shipping any more Yonah MacBook Pros. Good catch Taylor. That's perfect. What you are going to get will be a 2.33GHz C2D for sure. You might want to upgrade to the Seagate 160BG HD though. :p

I checked the store after I saw this. 17'' BTO ship in 5-7 business days, so that is the 25-27th. 15'' ship in 1-3. All stock models ship in 24 hours.

For as long as I can remember, it has never taken that long for BTO, even durning the back to school rush.

Very nice evidence, thanks for the post.

Aplogies if this has been done before, and it's a little off-topic, but this is a link to an article about OS X performance on Core 2 Extreme (Conroe)

    http://www.tbreak.com/reviews/article.php?id=461

Basically, they've installed a "floating" copy of OS X intel onto an intel mobo with C2E.

I thought this line was particularly impressive:

"These last two tests were also conducted on that same PC with Windows installed and we see the Mac performing as well as Windows in Cinebench and a mere 3% slower in Photoshop which is especially impressive considering that Photoshop CS2 was running under Rosetta on the Mac. "

Who needs to wait for CS3?

Edit: on reflection, I'm not sure if I believe this...do you think it might be a hoax?

Yeah something just doesnt feel right. OS X recognises a 2.93GHz chip as 4GHz? and since when does Apple put in CPU features in system profiler?

Yes, because the uninitiated that claim this is ambiguous keep popping up. Oh wait...

If you read it as anything other than a division, you need to go back to school.

Only for those with a lack of understanding of basic math. Again, the problem is not the equation per say, it's the people that don't understand mathematics.

Quite incorrect actually. The dfifference is not minimal and this isn't just a "speed bump". If you read up on the Yonah and Merom chip architectures, you'll see that that Merom has significant architectural improvements over Yonah, including a 4MB L2 cache and most notably 64-bit support over Yonah's 32-bit support. This is very significant since Jobs is pushing Leopard and its 64-bit goodness.

Umm..technically you are right, but the the difference of 5-15% is not very significant, especially compared to Conroe's 40% jump. Merom's power is limited by slower FSB which is not going to see any change anytime soon. I just hope they fix current MBP issues first like battery life, underclocked graphic card and Superdrives. CPU upgrade is just a ritual Apple has to perform to stay in the league.

How about glass that doesn't get scratched when a piece of hair lands on it?

I like this idea about the glass haha.

Im probably going to wait out this version as long as iOS5 runs fine on the iPhone 4. If the release date is September than this version will be even more disappointing to me as it seems to be a spec bump. I dont play games on my phone so the A5 and graphics chip probably wont impact my usage significantly.

I really hope iOS5 is good, but im prepared for the worst ha!

How utterly retarded does one have to be to get to the point where they put workstations on top of the desk instead of on the floor where they belong? Do you really need to put your Apple computer next to your overpriced, glossy Apple display to prove yourself?

uuumm...yes I do want my MP on the desk. On the floor is where all the **** and dust is.

So you're saying that science has nothing to do with everyday life? Cake for the elite and bread for everyone else??

I didn't say that at all.

Certain things are good for one thing but not as good for another. Basing your metrics off of water and light make a lot of sense when you have to measure a great deal of new items and compare them objectively.

On the other hand when you need metrics to be a guide through daily life and nothing else, the system that's born from daily necessity makes a lot more sense.

The reasoning gets worse when you'd ask 311 million to make a change because a smaller community of professionals would like their standards to be the standards for all of society. It's not like the two can't coexist; there might be a good argument there if the two were incompatible, but the fact is that they're not.

I see no good sense in that. If the metric system was intrinsically difficult to use in everyday life, then maybe you would have a point. But it's not it's actually much, much easier to use once you learn it.

A distinction needs to be made here: just because something is easier to multiply by 10 (or 1/10th) doesn't mean that it's easier to use. How many times in your daily life do you need to multiply by 10, or even multiply what you measure? In most of my daily activities the metric system would do nothing new except provide a new set of numbers to get to know.

Even if you did occasionally multiply daily measurements, it would probably be with a smaller integer like 2, 3, or 4. In that case, the imperial system works very well because it provides very low factors and products that most people can do rapidly with nothing more than their 2nd grade 12x12 tables. In fact that's exactly how it came to be the way it is.

The metric system, as many people here keep pointing out, enables some pretty easy mental arithmetic. You'd use it if you had it.

How often does that easy arithmetic come up outside of science? Can you think of a real life example?

In any case, I do already have it. It's on every measuring device I have, from my ruler to my bathroom scale. I use it when it's necessary or more effective, but that's rare. Maybe you should accept that people can have a different preference.

You say it's about the 'ease of transition' but in the next breath you argue that it's all about 'economic return'. Personally I think you're clutching at straws to defend the fact that your country is behind the rest of the world in its ability to institute any kind of consistency with its system of measurements. But, we can agree to disagree.

They are not mutually exclusive values. Both are important factors in determining whether or not to switch. It's just like when a business decides to change it's logo; not only does the cost of marketing the new logo have to be factored in, but the potential lost sales also have to be weighed. In much the same way we have to decide if certain things being switched to metric will ever pay off and how disruptive they'll be. Some things that make sense like food and toiletries have already been metricated. Other things probably cost a lot more and won't be able to overcome their switching cost and they could also cost a lot.
