I would have to vote for Sufjan Stevens' five Christmas EPs. But besides those EPs, I have no Christmas albums. I do sometimes download a single Christmas song, though. I now have fifty. Of those, my favourites are Fairytale Of New York by the Pogues, Little Drummer Boy by Tori Amos, Christmas Party by The Walkmen, Christmas In America by Melissa Etheridge and Mery Christmas Darling by The Carpenters. All I Want For Christmas by Daffy Duck is pretty awesome as well.

I wouldn't bother trying to mimic photos like that. Its like actively learning to put lipstick on a pig.

But if you MUST, it looks like they over-smoothed the skin, then selectively gaussian-blurred the top corners.

But seriously, it is a terrible, really bad no-good trend that is on it's way out the backdoor already.

all of a sudden this morning my ibook G4 (running 10.3.8) stopped asking for my admin password when i install/uninstall software from the applications folder. it just installs or sends it right to the trash.

anyway, i repaired permissions and it still doesn't ask.

my primary user account is a standard account and i have the admin account/password that only gets used when it's asked for. any ideas?

things i have done recently: i was messing around with the trackpad driver earlier in the weeki installed the iscroll trackpad driver found here (http://www-users.kawo2.rwth-aachen.de/~razzfazz/) that enables two finger scrolling but subsequently uninstalled it.

Ed Zander publicly joined the ranks of CEOs (including Bill Gates) waiting for the moment in time when cell phones would render the iPod obsolete this week in 2005.

I bet Zander wasn't happy when Apple released the iPhone...

As my mac mini's super drive malfunctions(fail to read frequently, vibrating with noisy while reading), I cannot use the super drive to reinstall my mac mini. After googling, I found that the re-installation could be done via Remote Install Mac OS X on my PC. I followed the instructions e.g. hold down Option (alt) key while restarting mac mini. However, it does not show a list of available startup disk and it just goes to the login screen.

    My config and setting:

    PC:
    I selected "Ethernet" as the network connection in Remote Install Mac OS X;
    I have checked "Enable DVD or CD Sharing" on my PC(Win 7 64 bit SP1);

    Mac:
All the I/O devices(keyboard, mouse and monitor) are non-apple products.
Mac Mini is a Mar-2009 and non-server version.
    OS: Snow Leopard 10.6.7

If I don't want to use an external DVD drive, does anybody tell me how to do it via Remote Install Mac OS X?

I have 32GB of RAM in my Mac Pro and I got the RAM from Superbiiz, it was a steal compared to OWC and Apple's prices. It looks like they have the RAM for $137 (http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=D3-13R8GH1&title=Hynix-DDR3-1333-8GB-ECC-REG-Original-Server-Memory) per 8GB stick, so that'd be just shy of $1100 plus tax and shipping.

Good price.. except it seems Superbiiz only provides a 30-day repair/replacement warranty. After which, it's up to the manufacturer if they'll repair/replace the item. In this case, Hynix... who apparently don't talk to consumers about RMA - they only talk to the sellers. So.. uh.. well, they may or may not replace it.

Buying from OWC/Transintl provide a lifetime warranty.

So.. risk versus less risk... or cheaper vs expensive.

Today marks the day that I've had my MacBook Air for 14 days, and it also marks the last day that I have to return my MacBook Air to Apple.

So here's my story. I was playing on my MacBook Air yesterday in the morning and it started to creak when it was moved at certain positions and angles, and whenever I put my wrists on the palmrest area. I wouldn't have thought much of it, but I just paid $1300+ for this Mac and I expect it to be nearly perfect, and up until yesterday, it was. So anyways, my MacBook Air continued to creak all day yesterday and is still creaking today.

I finally had had enough of the creaking and called Apple Support. The person that helped me with my issue was VERY friendly, helpful, and seemed intent on getting my problem fixed. After giving him my information, he quickly looked up the issue and told me that a couple of the MacBook Air's have been reported to creak, but that it can be fixed by taking it to an Apple Store and having them fix it at no charge.

After telling me this, he quickly set up an appointment to talk to a Genius tomorrow at 4:00 PM. I was VERY surprised at how much the Apple Support rep seemed to care about my issue. I've owned a lot of laptops/PC's in the past and whenever I needed support, they always sucked. Apple Support was amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

This whole process took under 10 minutes, and for me the greatest thing about Apple's Support was that I COULD ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND THIS GUY! Once when I needed support from HP for my PC, I couldn't understand any of the reps at all and they didn't seem to understand what I was asking, so I ended up fixing the problem on my own, the Apple Support rep that I talked to, on the other hand, was friendly, clear in what he was saying, and intent on helping me fix my problem.

    I love Apple. <3 :D

    Hey SR71 :)

Good to hear! Apple do indeed have fantastic support, and I had a similar issue within a week of buying my MBP. They replaced it no questions asked. Unlike countless issues I had with Dell, and they refused to replace my faulty product! Enjoy the MBA :)

    Hey,

Here's what I'm thinking of and just wanted to know if anyone has any information on this:

I'm a big NHL fan and with playoffs under way - I changed my desktop background to a playoff bracket that shows all teams. The problem is that its a static background image. I would like is a dynamic live background. For example, after each game the bracket would automatically (live) update and show the scores of the last game and also the score in the series (each series being best of 7). It would be nice for other interactive live features too.

Does this make sense to anyone and if so, any ideas on if this type of an application exists? if so, where should I look.

    Much appreciate your time.

    Sunny

aw, i prefer the chaos of hunting and pecking throughout MR so i can find the rumors that fit my preconcieved notions of reality, or the nonreality of future apple products. the thrill is gone.

    a great idea though ...

Whether using DSP or Encore, it would be better to design your menus in AfterEffects or Motion, then flatten your image or video and bring in as a background element to your menu, then just use the whatever Authoring software more as final compositor of your assets.

Just add you button overlays and connect everything and create your disc.

It's not a Flash issue. It's a deliberate lockout., which makes me wonder if there will be an app for it any time soon.

ok. so you read the title. basically, it lets you listen to music in apps such as iParkIt, with headphones or the speaker.
you're gonna need a device with iOS 4 or higher with multitasking abilities, and the apple headphones, or any other brand of headphones, but they must have the remote on them.
    1. first, open the app.
    2. plug in your headphones
    3. open the multitasking bar up
    4. the music play button should be greyed out.
    5. press the play button for music on your headphones.
    6. if you wanna listen through the headphones, you're done, just return to the app.
    7. if you wanna listen through the speakers, don't close the multitasking bar, just press play on the headphones, unplug them, and you should be able to press play for your music.
    8. return to app
    9. enjoy the full awesomeness of multitasking.

Hey everyone I have a question about iTunes and the shuffle and genius mix. I enjoy this feature, especially when I make my own smart playlists-even the genius mox is fine in a pinch. However, for certain types of music-classical in particular-I would rather lock certain songs or pieces together in a particular order. It is rather annoying to hear the Third movement of Beethoven's Fifth not followed by the finale for example. Yes I know I could just listen to the album but sometimes I think it owuld be nice to have this option for some randomness as well. So is there a solution, one which will work on my iPhone as well?
