Given that a number of VmWare's products are essentially free, Parallels will indeed have some significant challenges ahead if the OS X version is likewise free.
I don't think this is a realistic hope. The equivalent Windows/Linux app is VMware Workstation, which is definitely not free.
VMware's free apps can certainly be used on a workstation; but they're targeting the server space and lack some of the niceties of Workstation (such as experimental hardware video acceleration). But I do use the free VMware Server on a Fedora box for generic Windows stuff like IE testing, and it fits that bill just fine.
I would think it likely that VMware's pricing will have to be somewhat competitive with Parallels - people aren't going to spend $180 on it unless it totally blows Parallels out of the water (which would be hard to do).

Wait what ? Apple's complaint had multiple utility patents, design patents, trademark infringement claims and trade dress claims. That's pretty broad, not specific.
It also levied these complaints at the many different phones in the Galaxy line-up. The media is only comparing 1 model, the Vibrant/i9000. There are many models included in the complaint, including the Captivate, the Nexus S and the Epic 4G. Yet as shown on this page, you'd be hard pressed to mistake them for a 3GS like the media claims.
Apple's complaint isn't specific and it isn't about a specific model at all. That is why you guys need to look beyond the simple pictures you've seen on Apple biased media. At this point, this could go either way, could get reduced, etc..
Also, the patents Samsung is suing over are quite important as they relate to reduced power usage during data transmission, something we all know Apple values profoundly in their designs. There's 10 patents in all. Like Apple, Samsung is defending their IP. Anyway, like stated many times, this lawsuit and now the counter-suit is just a negotiation tactic by both corporations. I would happily pay the current fee for MobileMe if Apple offered some better options for hosting a website. Right now I pay for web hosting for a family blog and a flickr pro account. If I could host my wordpress blog on my idisk space with my own domain name, I would sign up right now.
You could always do this. I have my own domain name and host on MobileMe.
Though I haven't figured out how to use an email address using my domain name and have mail hosted via MobileMe. I wish they would add that feature.

Its interesting to see Microsoft's strategy on this - I think its only a good thing that somebody is trying to look at the whole player/content ecosystem in the same way that Apple have...that competition can only be a good thing surely?
However...some of the comments do seem to suggest they already expect to be losing the battle though - surely if you really thought you could compete with iPod/iTunes you would be a little bolder? Makes it sound half-hearted, and thats a shame.

Apple definitely should give you a warning that you're about to purchase an app more costly than $75. Although this kid obviously only went to the app because of its cost.
I've heard this general idea mentioned by a few people but I'm more than a little curious as to why it's always $75 that's mentioned as the threshold.

Bah, these things are rubbish. The scroll wheel clogs up with dirt, just as scroll ball mice did in days gone by - except there is no user access to clean it thoroughly. Apple need to re-think the design on this one before updating it.

Yes, Microsoft is (and always has been) moving into other areas and fails in some, but their software machine is very strong in the client desktop software and server market. Their business and monopoly just keeps growing, they aren't desperate. All business tries to expand, especially when you have billions of spare profit to burn every quarter. Wish I was as "desperate" as them.

If I look at people with their iphones, i see like less than 5% using anything on their phones. And all of them use the Apple bumper on some iphone 4. I've seen hundreds of iphones in the wild, but I still have to see one non-bumper case in the wild.

After really looking at the photo, either Micro**** literally gave the 3G iPod plastic surgery or that is completely Photoshopped. It is SO similar to the 3G iPod with added ugliness to make it Genuine Micro****.

I am liking this upward trend we have going right now. We need to keep that up. We need major releases of folding clients to be posted on atleast page 2 if not page one to get some interest.

I should add that this is the one reason I'm interested in VMWare - native disk speed. I can partition my disk to XP and Mac ala Bootcamp and have VMWare use the partition natively for disk access.

wimax is not 4G. it even shows up with the wifi icon when it's connected. LTE is a real ITU standard that will eventually pave the way for real 4G

Why on earth would this happen? Why would they edit it to include the ix.Mac.MarketingName? I don't understand. Is there any logical explanation? I don't think it is a typo because I don't think Apple is stupid enough to edit it just in order to put a typo in. Weird.
Its humans at work - probably a human clicked a wrong button that added this thing with some placeholder name ... most likely means nothing or if anything than updated appleTV to run apps.
Universal MacOS/iOS apps just don't make sense (controlling the apps is just too different) and a apple branded TV makes no sense (appleTV does the trick for this and that way you don't have to buy an expensive TV to get the latest hardware - you just add it to the TV of your choice)
