Yup. I agree. And I bet the new MBPs will ship immediately as well. What would be really cool is if Apple lowered the price of Aperture to $199 or so to make it more affordable to the photo piddlers among us. After all, surely Aperture 2 is going to have massive hardware and GPU requirements (read: QuadCore Mac + 4GB RAM + X1900 video card). That is really where Apple makes it's cash. Just dreaming, of course, because I can't justify a $300 software package when I'm just a dabbler. Lightroom beta has been fun though.
No MBPs.
Obviously, you didn't buy Aperture when it first came out, only to find out you were beta testing software for Apple. Now, if I can just figure out what to buy with my $200 store rebate. Maybe update from PS7 to CS2...hmm.

This could be either really big or really bad.
Well, based on past experience here - no matter what is announced, there will be people on this forum complaining that it isn't enough. :p We'll have to wait and see how it (whatever "it" is) plays in Peoria over time.
Personally I'm hoping for the AV streaming device; and if it ties in with my Tivo that'll be a big plus. :D

I know the fall is the most optimistic date but hopefully when it does it will be well worth it!

Here's a thought apple.... Let's stop being the big bad bully on campus, and just make your damn products! I love Apple products. but, the way this company is constantly suing other companies because of so called "infringements". Its getting really old and really stupid fast!
Do what you do best: MAKIN GREAT DEVICE"S!!! You're not good at this! You are burning bridges that you will potentially NEVER get back! And then you will lose the upper hand in the market! Be smart, stop suing every little freakin thing that comes along!!!!

That post isn't even worth the time to flame...
Some people seem to be making a half-hearted effort at it, but you're right.

Dude, it's a MacWorld convention, not an environmental love-in. GP needs to get their own convention. They were on private property - the conf organizers have the right to do what they want. Never mind their rights, huh?
As I said, fewer and fewer spaces where public debate can take place. Shopping malls are the same - 'public spaces' that aren't. Soon streets that have been public for years will start to be be privatised to provide 'better value for taxpayers' and the takeover will continue.
Then where can free debate take place? Some postage-stamp size bit of turf you call home?

I think he was referring to the older versions of Office that had weird MDI interfaces for Word and Excel, so that it only displayed one document at a time, unless you explicitly forced two separate instances of the application to run at the same time.
Actually there is still annoyances with that. While you can run two instances of Excel they still use a weird MDI interface if you are just double clicking to open files. A nightmare if you have dual monitors, and still not fixed in Office 2010.

why is the US so far behind Europe with this kind of technology?
(edit: maybe it isn't i haven't shopped for a phone in nearly a year)
Because US cell phone carriers suck. :/

I wonder if it will still be called the iTunes Music Store?
Or will they even bother calling it iTunes at all... :p

How does streaming music to my iPhone help me, when O2 cap my Internet usage, and then charge when you use more.
It won't, but if you have iTunes on a computer at home, it could save you on constantly replacing worn out hard drives before they crash and lose all your library.

I actually agree. Pull 'em. It may be censorship, but it's dangerous not to.
I Agree too! Remove it. Anyone afraid of being caught drunk shouldn't be driving drunk & kill someone!

My nano is already on eBay awaiting a nice metal clad 8GB version, I hope they do an andonised black one though to match my other gadgets.
nice....I'm sure it will be a good time to pick up an older generation on ebay...once they are released that is. This week is the sellers market however.

The biggest reason phones suck today is because the interfaces are horrible (SE's being the best of them all). Motorola's phones are nice but their UI's are awful. What I am expecting from Apple is an easy to use phone that looks great and has, nothing less than, an excellent UI. And of course it'll work with iSync ... that's just obvious.

If they release MacBook Pros, I wonder if the top end models will come with a Blu-ray option. I know people have dismissed this before but I just noticed that Sony has released "The world's first Blu-Ray disc enabled notebook." Will the 17" MBP be next?
-Squire
I guarantee that Apple will choose to put in a hybrid HD-DVD / Blue-Ray drive, rather that limit the Mac to one format... (even though they are supporters of Blue-Ray).
Also it might be a while before Apple's engineering team figures out how to fit the newly released drives into the thin MacBook pros.

Well, wasn't the iMac G5 restricted to 2GB, yet it was a 64-bit processor? A 32-bit computer can take up to 4GB, but due to the hardware Apple was/is using, they can't even take this.
What i find odd is that it appears to allow 1 or 2GB in either slot, but no more than 3GB in total. That is obviously the maximum the board can take, but it would have made a little more sense to allow 2GB in each. This will not really effect it's ability to run 64-bit software, just restricts how much memory can be used. Remember that you have been able to get AMD systems with 64-bit processors for some time now. They won't take more than 4GB, but will allow you to run 64-bit OSes and Apps.
I'm hoping by the time I'm after an iMac, it will take at least 4GB, have Blu-Ray as an option, (although I may opt for standard Superdrive if it is an option and buy a Mac compatible external later), include bigger hard drives and stick to a similar price point to now.
I'm tempted by the 20" now, but am not buying yet and would want about 320-400GB in there for the same price, perhaps even 2GB RAM. I've got time to wait however.
I could be wrong but...I think Manic did hit it on the head. I think some of the hardware is still 32 bits. If the memory address leads are there for 3 Gigs then they are there to the max of 4 Gigs, above that is anyones guess. Yes it is very strange since either slot can take the 2 gig chip.
Obviously the Mac Pro does not have that issue.

I don't claim to know a thing about trademark law, but looking at this simply I find it difficult to understand how the term "Windows" can become a trademark but "App Store" cannot.
Amen, brother... M$ wants to have it their way but not allow anyone else to do the same.

I'm sorry, but if you're the guy that goes 70mph in the fast lane and refuses to move, you are at fault for what ever I chose to dish out to you, for not having the common courtesy to move your car.

You are going to kill someone or be killed with an attitude like that. It is sad that you think you can do whatever you want, and it is always someone else's fault.

Here's more details from SD newspaper:
CHULA VISTA One man was killed and two others were arrested early Monday after a shootout with a security guard at a Chula Vista Apple Store.
Police said the trio broke into the store at the Otay Ranch Town Center on Birch Road just before 7 a.m., said police Capt. Gary Ficacci.
The security guard told officers he was in his vehicle outside the business when he saw two men and a woman smash the store's front windows, Ficacci said. The store manager was inside.
The guard confronted them and at least one of the men took out a handgun and threatened him, and a gun battle ensued, Ficacci said.
The trio then got into a small car and started to drive away but the male driver was mortally wounded and the car crashed into a light pole.
The other man and the woman got out of the car and ran. They were found about 8 a.m. hiding on a patio in a residential neighborhood across the street, Ficacci said.
Nearby schools were locked down as a precaution, but those restrictions have been lifted.
The eastern portion of the mall remains closed because of the investigation.
Police were still sorting out the details and have not said how many shots were fired. One gun was found on the dead man. Another was found on the man taken into custody.
The names of those involved have not been released. The security guard and the store manager were not harmed, police said.

I won't be in the market for a new phone until late next year, around August or so. Hopefully by then Cingular's exclusiveness will be over, although I'm not sure who my next carrier will be, Cingular or T-mobile.
