My old flatmate was invited by O2 to take part in a trial of this technology in a nokia phone here in london. The phone had the ability to be an Oyster card (pay for public transport), an instant pay barclay card and to read a series of tags which he was given. Not sure what they were really useful for to be honest, but I guess you could set it up to change settings depending on location.
I think the trial was a success, so it doesn't surprise me that this would be incorporated in the iPhone.

Looks just like HTC Sense's Leap. Maybe HTC should be an ass like Apple and sue Apple for slavishly copying HTC's Sense UI.

Regardless, some people are still gonna complain of some unimportant missing feature.

NO? cos that would make it a MBP
Not really, the MBP has tons of other wonderful features that makes it pro. Such as the fact that it runs OSX, has backlit keyboard, and also the 34 express card slot that 1 or 2 people use.

Just think, if they all got food poisoning and died - America would be brought to its knees. For a few days.
Nah, American leadership weathers stuff like that with ease. It's one of the effective things about our military leadership too.

Am I the only one who plugs my phone in at night? All this worry over the battery life seems kind of silly. As long as it lasts the day...

Is there anything you are interested in trading for?

end result no real change. Someone else will rise up and take his place.
Real question is will the replacement be worse than the the first.

Does anyone else find it really really really weird that Apple would announce it today and an airline that is mentioned is denying that a deal was even close to fruition? Someone got their lines crossed/translations screwy I think. Sheesh.

Have they fixed the issue where the News Feed constantly reverts to "Live Feed" view even though you've selected "Status Updates"?
Because that problem right there is reason enough for me not to install it.

The government wants to make sure that, as online piracy moves increasingly to streaming, the law keeps up with the activity. Currently, "reproducing" and "distributing" copyrighted works are felony charges, and they cover peer-to-peer file-sharing.
full article here (http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/03/obama-ip-czar-wants-felony-charges-for-illegal-web-streaming.ars)
What do you think about this? I personally agree with what the full article points out, streaming is like holding a public performance without a proper license which is not a felony.

I'm getting a really intrusive Head and Shoulders ad banner at the top of the page. Whenever your mouse pointer hovers above the banner, the banner expands, and a video automatically starts playing. This can happen quite easily when you go to click on another browser tab in Firefox/Safari/Chrome/etc.

I remember reading either here or on Appleinsider that if this goes well enough, they can use this chip to replace batteries. The thing with that is, if we take away the battery, where does the original power come from?
From a heat source such as a butane flame or other combustion.
We're talking two different applications here
1) recover some waste heat from the CPU back to electricity
2) generate electricity by applying a much higher heat source to one side of the thing - as a potential replacemenmt for batteries, fuel cells, etc.

A little smartass humor does not hurt in my opinion. Unnecessary one word posts are annoying though.

Looks valid to me, and makes more sense than their current implementation.
Currently, when you're closing one of the MANY programs that are usually open, you can only interact with the small strip across the bottom of the phone.
Four icons at a time...you HAVE to scroll... and you can't use landscape mode to see more icons at a time either.
(Really a poor UI design as it doesn't make efficient use of the limited available screen space.)
Hopefully, we'll see this soon... (as well as the option for a landscape homescreen..... with active icons. :-/
