I know those gestures, I have them enabled in my non-jailbroken iPad 2 on 4.3 GM. You enable them with Xcode, just as you did with the beta.

You're kidding! LOL [bangs head on desk] Why did I not think of that? So you should be able to enable them in Xcode on my jail broken 4.3 iPad.

    Thanks mate, you're the best!

For those of you still involved in SETI@home...

SETI@home NewsSETI@home has completed its transition to BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing). BOINC, developed at U.C. Berkeley, is a framework for volunteer computing projects like SETI@home.

Switching your computer to the new "SETI@home/BOINC" is easy. Visit http://setiathome.berkeley.edu for instructions. We'll be shutting down the "SETI@home Classic" project on December 15. The workunit totals of users and teams will be frozen at that point, and the final totals will be available on the web.

Scientists at other universities are using BOINC to create volunteer computing projects in areas like molecular biology, high-energy physics, and climate change study. See http://boinc.berkeley.edu for more information. BOINC lets you donate computer time to multiple causes, divided up however you want. For example, your PC could spend 40% of its time searching for extraterrestrial life (SETI@home), 30% studying climate change (http://climateprediction.net), and 30% studying protein folding, design and docking (Rosetta@home: http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/).

You can run SETI@home 100% of the time if you want. But we strongly encourage you to participate in other projects. Doing so ensures that when SETI@home is down or has no work, your computer stays busy helping other researchers.I thought they made the BOINC switch long ago, but apparently I was just remembering when they started the switch.

I had posted a thread last week andeveryone got all over me thinking I was spamming. I'm glad you asked this question to show that there really is a need for small business websites.

    I had recommended www.macwebsitebuilder.com

There's no limit on the bandwidth for you and I'm not sure if they offer domain names, you could always grab one from godaddy.com

Is there a simple shortcut or macro in Apple Mail to simplify the HTML tag for linking to a different web page? In other words, instead of clicking on:

    http://www.macrumors.com

...I could hide it under "Click HERE" and the HERE would underline and light-up when you hovered over it? If there's not, that would be a good thing to add to Mail in the future.

(Sorry, but I'm just learning HTML...)

    I got a refurb for my then 20 month old 3Gs about 3 weeks ago. It's a 5K.

It looks and feels new (nice to havea FRESH oleophobic screen!), but is slower than molasses with 4.3.2 (mine had 4.3.1 or 4.3) and the bluetooth is very hard to connect to my horseless carriage whereas the old one connected fine. If I like and get the iPhone 5 this fall, no biggie, but if I do not like it and hand another year with the 3Gs I may be an unhappy camper.

    Mike

You can always go to Apple and ask for a new "Replacement." Its a replacement phone that isn't a refurb.

The PDA is no more, you can fit all the good things about them in an iPod. Apple brought out the first PDA and the next thing they bring out is going to be another first......

Yup, if I had to guess, I'd say most Americans don't live near an Apple Store.

I'm lucky to live between two Apple stores.

One is in a 6% sales tax state, the other in a 0% sales tax state.

Both are literally 35 minutes away.

My mom wanted to burn a few songs from from her library to a disc for her preschool class. She backed up and synced her iPhone. After she selected the songs she wanted to burn, ALL but those songs in her library disappeared. All of her playlists (except for the one she burned to the cd) are empty. Fortunately, everything is still on her iphone. How do we fix this?

Did you take this picture? If this is just a general thread for "Pictures from Egypt", you should at least extend the courtesy of identifying and giving credit to the photographer.

    Agreed, apologies. Fixed now.

If it's truly from Italy, maybe some idiot bought it not knowing it was facunlocked, and has been preserving the baseband LOL.

    Or

It's foreign and was simply sold in Italy, hence not being factory unlocked. The OP is being kind of a space cadet with his answers so it's hard to say right now.

I'm a bit behind and just now watched the interview, but I do love watching someone so gifted and passionate about his job. I really liked how he stressed over and over that their (Apple's) main goal is make the 'Best product ever'. Really liked the part about Flash being a descending technology and they are more interested in ascending tech. I don't work in tech and do not know the validity of that, but I understand what he means and I for one tend to trust Apple in the future of tech gadgets.

Open QuickTime X > go to File > New Movie Recording

Then select the arrow next to the full screen button and select either high or maximum quality.

Or you can record straight in iMovie by clicking the camera button in the middle bar on the left hand side and set it to 720p.

When forum members are banned from the site for a period of 1-30 days, occasionally longer, they receive a timeout title on their profile for everyone to see. Some consideration could and in my view, should be given to ending this practice because:

    1. It's been clearly shown to provide amusement and gossip even public gloating to others who take pleasure seeing it imposed on others.

    2. It stands in direct contradiction of this sentiment:

    Forum discipline is handled privately.

    3. Because the offending action which places people in timeout is almost always removed, it therefore serves little purpose in making examples of forum members and in reminding others how to follow forum rules.

The only useful indication that comes to mind from making this status public is the inability to receive and send PMs to those in timeout, but those who might miss their friends would presumably have other way of staying in touch, especially with the proliferation of channels and other forms of networking.

Questioning some assumptions, is this a big problem? No, but it's worth thinking over. Would its removal be an entirely bad thing? I don't think so... it may even prevent the buildup of resentment on the part of those who may have something to offer down the line.

If you just want to output to a 17" display then you would be fine using the screen hack. Where you start to run into troube with the back is outputting to larger screens such as a 20" widescreen or larger. The 16MB of graphics memory (the max that is allocated to the external display) just does not cut it and you will start to notice slowdowns in things like expos. As long as you are not gaming or doing anything really graphically intensive on your external monitor I think you would be fine with the screen hack and a 12" iBook.

Am I a hopeful person in general? No. I generally don't care about anything, least of all hope for anything.

Is it important? It might be. Hope can drive people to great lengths.

In OS9, when something was in the trash and you wanted to put it back to where it had originally been you could 'Apple-Y' it... no matter how long it had been in the trash.

Is there an equivalent keyboard command in Panther?

    Thanx...
