    I did...:D

    DIE POWER PC...DIE!!!

Most agreed. I'm using an iBook G4 right now, but I'd practically sell my kidneys (both of 'em!) to convert it to a MacBook Pro.

Let us continue to pray for a speedy death to the Macintosh PowerPC computer.

Does it even MATTER if Apple keeps up? Do we actually WANT Apple to release a new computer every month when Intel bumps up their chips a few megahertz?
    ....
Is it really hurting you guys that Apple has been slow to update? Are you really doing tasks that the current computer lineup cannot do?

Actually, yes. I use my laptop as a portable desktop, and I do a lot of different things with my computer. My current PowerBook G4 is capable of some of them, but really not practical for many (scientific computing, ray-tracing molecular models, etc.). A current yonah-based MBP would certainly be faster, but it would still be a 32-bit processor, and like many other pro-users, I don't want to have to buy a new machine every year.

So I'm waiting for the merom-based MBPs like thousands of others, because I'm going to need that 64-bit CPU, and I want the extra speed (note that, even if you're not using the 64-bit CPU's capacity to address vast amounts of memory - not possible in a current laptop anyway - when in 64-bit mode, the CPU has more registers, making it significantly faster than when it runs in 32-bit mode).

I rather hoped that Apple would be first out of the gate with these new CPUs, but their delay getting to market with Intel's latest laptop chip makes me cautiously optimistic that we may see it appear in a redesigned case (with easily swappable HDDs please).

    Cheers

1.83 GHz and 2 GHz Core 2 Duos for the MacBook, 2.16 GHz and 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duos for the MacBook Pro. Simple. And an MR X1800 (XT?)/ Go 7800 (GTX?) for the MacBook Pro!

I guess it wouldn't hurt their future sales to announce international release dates. Several people I know have ordered or bought an iPad 2 simply because it is available (even with order backlogs) compared to Honeycomb tablets.
Here in continental Europe, all I saw so far was an announcement for the second quarter, which can slip to whenever...
Those of you who already got it - is it worth the wait?

Every Costco here has had Xooms in abundance since the first shipment. I'd say availability is good, interest...not so much.

Costco probably shouldn't have dropped Apple, wonder if they think about that.

    Wait..

They are already on that list!

GTH Universal! I bought my iPod, Every song on it, and will continue to do so. Stop Extorting the public, and possibly you may actually have some fans, or people that want to deal with your crappy company!

Isn't this hypocritical since Apple has been known to do this in their retail stores too?

Sources? Evidence? Easy to make cheap accusations, much harder to prove them.

I wonder how long this "bug" has existed? You know...the bug that's recording all sorts of other information into the database.

    2 years? 4 years?

If it's been longer than a few months, no one will ever believe a)it is a bug b)a bug this severe for privacy concerns, c)that it was never mentioned before as a bug, and d)until the lawsuit has never been on the roadmap to be fixed.

Okay, I did some tinkering myself, just for kicks, and here's what I came up with. I thought that we were talking about a computer that was somewhere between a Mac Mini and a Mac Pro (Power Mac), so I thought, maybe the style should be a combination of the two. Let me know what you think.

    It's not a Mac Plus... It's a Mac++!

    can you say "G4 Cube"?

Since the release of Leopard, the subsequent releases haven't had the wow factor of before.

    Just what I think anyway.

I hate to link to IGN, but here goes:

    GT5 damage explained (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/113/1137446p1.html)

Confusion seems to have stemmed from its differing implementation across the game's extensive garage, a point that Sony further clarified. "Standard models have minor deformation and scratches," said Sony, "Premium cars have greater visible level of damage, and Premium racing models have the highest level of damage."
    ----------
    Also from this (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/113/1136979p1.html) article:

"The first update, Yamauchi said, is coming this Saturday and will include restrictions for weight and power in online races.

Yamauchi went on to say that his team would be "upgrading every week, every month." "

I'm an Apple mobile device user, and I have never ever been on an Android-centric forum. Not one time! Why would I care what people who have such an obvious difference in taste think about what I have?

It never ceases to amaze me at how many Android users have to flock to a site called "MacRumors" because they feel then need to lead us poor blinded Apple "fanboys" to the bright shining city on a hill that is Android paradise.

At least go have your Android orgy, where it may be appreciated by others who care to watch that type of thing...wait...there are such things as Android forums, right?

I wonder what they're going to call them, Quad sounds cool but "Octa or Octo" just sounds a bit silly.

    MacPro8?

    The Mactopus??
Ive already trademarked "OctoCore" and "CoreOcto";)
Just keep saying it to yourself. After about the 12th time it just starts rolling off your tongue...

Looking forward to the new final cut studio.

if apple is smart they will allow access to individual parts of the suite
as seperate Mac App Store downloads.

I doubt they will. Because even as single apps they would probably be too bloated to really be plausible as downloads.

A much better Final Cut Express would be a different game. It would be pared down enough that it could work. And hopefully would have the same interface as the big boy (or every close to) so it could act as 'training wheels' for students etc that might move up later.

Same with Logic Express to Logic Studio

    Here's what I am hearing:

    http://applecritictv.blogspot.com/2011/04/new-final-cut-pro.html

I'm not buying some of the things mentioned. Starting with the notion that it will only work on 10.7. I think that there will certainly be features that would require the 64 bit support of 10.6/7 but I suspect that some features will still work (albeit perhaps slower) in 10.5.8. I do suspect that any support for prior OS versions and even single core processors could be out.

I doubt that round tripping will no longer exist but I do think that they will have improved it so that it is seamless or closer to seamless.

I also disagree that they will drop tape capture. It's just not the right time especially if they want to keep their fans in the studios and such (who still use tape and film). In fact if anything I think they could add a separate capture/log program that would allow users to import and tag media that would be accessible to all the programs.

I do hope they are correct about Server. If it is a separate program it would be great if it acted more like a plug-in than a totally new item

What about Tigerton (2007)? Isn't that a "true" quad?

Intel has two lines of Xeon processors:

    * The 5000 series is DP (dual processor, like Woodcrest, Clovertown)
    * The 7000 series MP (multi processor - eg 4+ processors)

Tigerton is supposed to be an MP version of Clovertown. Meaning, you can have as many chips as the motherboard supports, and just like Clovertown its an MCM (two processors in one package). 7000's are also about 5-10x the price of 5000's.

So unless the specs for Tigerton severely change, no point even considering it on a Mac Pro (high end xserve is plausible).

Its tough, but i did it. Unless you are going to hit someone you really dont need to slow down for many turns. The buses dont go fast enough for it to be a problem. You can get to 11th at the first turn but cutting in very close to the cone (dont hit it!) and downshifting to slide a little. Sneak into 11th and start drafting the bus in front of you. Theres an easy left where you can pass on the inside and take one more place, then get as close to the tires on the right as possible and you'll be able to grab a few more spots before you hit the 2nd straight.

The next turn is a hard left into an easy 180 right. Be careful on the left as its easy to hit a cone, then cut close to the inside of the right. When you get out of that turn you should be directly behind the blue and teal buses. You wont be able to pass them for a while so draft as best as you can until you get to the hard left at the complete other end of the track. Take that turn really wide and stay to the inside as you exit. You should be able to stay at speed and sneak right by if you are careful enough to not bump into them. If you are too close just back off a little, as long as you pass the blue buses at this turn you are doing great. Just be careful.

The next is a hard left that takes you back to the starting line. If you got ahead of the blue and teal bus there will be a bit of congestion there. Stay close to the inside but be careful you dont hit the grass too much. You should be able to get 5th or 6th before the 2nd lap starts. Follow the same lines as before and watch your corners for a chance to pass on the inside. I got to 1st at the last long straight, but the dark green bus in front is a little violent, so screw the line and do whatever it takes to stay away from him. Take both last lefts carefully and you'll grab first.

Its tough, but possible when you learn the track. I havent tried the Lotus challenge yet because i've been working on licenses, but i assume its roughly the same process just much faster.

Cool thanks. I will give this a try. Anything to get this bus done. I hate the tasks where whatever it is you are driving is real slow!

you take everything east of kansas and i will take the western region of the usa

when we have enough money, i can go raid asia and australia/new zealand for old G5s and you can go after europe and the middle east

when we are done we will be rich and could sit on the same oil board as bin laden, dick cheney, and several of the bush family members

and based on who is taller, one of us could be dr. evil and the other one will be mini me

    sound good?

damn and i wanted asia... ahh but europe wont be too bad. damn it i am 5'7 so i might end up with the short end of the stick.

For everybody wondering why they would do it like this:

Corporate looks at whether or not daily sales goals are made. An iPad is a guarantee sale, so if they have five available, and already made today's goal, they want to keep it until the next day, because that's a guaranteed $2500 (at least!) they'll make. For Best Buy as a company it doesn't matter and it's probably not beneficial, but it makes a store manager look good if he can say he made the sales goal every day since the launch of the iPad 2.
