oh ok. well if you use the console client, what command are you using?

here's what i would do - first, run ./fah6 -configonly and configure the client.

next, if you don't want to use all cores, you can run ./fah6 -smp 6 -advmethods -verbosity 9 - local

if you do decide to use all cores, you can use -bigadv instead of -advmethods

but let us know if you decide to do that. we'd love to see how well that i7 iMac does

im not using any command :\ i just click the fah6 exe that came with it and away it goes.

ill try to launch it from terminal and whatnot and ill come back.

ill try figure out how to get the results and post them here for comparisons :)

Also waiting... :) My current iPod 5G Video just stopped playing sound out of both channels, what a coincidence.. Still ordered a new jack stick though, 3 including shipping from Hong Kong, that's manageable.. :D

But a new iPod for waiting 3 weeks, oh yeah.. I'll also have time to read about the new models in the mean time.

Why doesn't Google just send a payment for every time a video is viewed? The artists would make a ton of money and the videos would get to stay. Pulling them down and giving people a reprimand is not the right way to go.

the biggest factor is your clock speed for shaving off time on each step of the WU. if you are not doing CPU intensive tasks the time for each step should remain pretty constant. say each step requires an average of 16 minutes you could multiply that by 100 for the steps and get 1600 minutes. thats 26 hours if running 24/7. the deadline is like 3 or 4 days so you could take some breaks in between there and get it done. say each step is 20 minutes then your looking at 33 hours etc

so yeah if you take small breaks no prob, but if you leave it off for a day or more you may be cutting it close.

You're definitely haulin' on the stats, what kinda rig are you running?

So your probably wondering why I haven't been doing a bunch of iPhone case reviews. Well, I have been enjoying a lot of other technology and have gotten over the iPhone accessory headache for a few days now. I guess it would be best to start right back in where we left off with a review of a couple of cases from one of my favorite companies, ID America, the famous makers of the Gasket and the Skyline. Today, we will be taking a look at their newest editions to the store, the Ice and the Dry Ice. The Dry Ice and the Ice both feature a see thru polycarbonate shell, one being hazy, and one being crystal clear. Catch the full review after the jump!

As always, let's take a quick dive into the way ID America packages their cases. Much like the Skyline & the Gasket, the Ice and the Dry Ice both arrived in a very stylish and simple Apple styled box. After taking a few minutes of ripping and clawing my way in, I was presented with both the Dry Ice & the Ice, both on separate packages, of course. In case you didn't know, both the Ice & the Dry Ice both include a set of front and back screen protectors, a very nice and soft purple microfiber cloth, and an application card. My installation and review of the shields can be found at the bottom of this article.

Let's get onto actually installing the case on the phone, which wasn't the easiest in my experience. Like almost any other snap together style case, I simply set my iPhone 4 into the back of the case and snapped the front part of the case onto the back. This is, however, where a torrent of problems started to erupt, most of them I will get to later. First off, I was constantly having too realign the case so that the notches would line up correctly. And even when they were lined up correctly, they were nearly impossible to snap together, and required a very large amount of force, not a good start.

Let's take a quick overview of the case. On the top of the case you will find two individual cutouts for the sleep/wake button and the audio jack. The sleep/wake button was extremely easy to press and I can guarantee that all headphone jacks will be compatible due to the fact that the cutout is so large. On the side of the case you will find one single cutout for the volume rockers and the vibrate switch. All these buttons were very easy to get to and I had no problems at all registering any of them. On the bottom of the case you will find one single cutout for the dock connector, the speaker, and the mic. The opening is large enough that most cables should fit and a few docks may be compatible, but not all. Lat but not least, you have a vey generous cutout for the camera and the flash which have had no problems whatsoever when it came to using the flash in low lit areas.

All right, let me talk about what I like, and we can get to the negatives later. First off, I love the design that this case has going for it, its simple and elegant at the same time. Both the Dry Ice and the Ice look plain sexy with their see thru material and the Dry Ice looks absolutely stunning when viewed in direct daylight. The Dry Ice is also coupled with a very smooth silicone material on the outside that feels great in the hand. Also, since all the buttons are cutout fairly large, most third party accessories work just fine with the case, which outed a big fat smile on my face. No need to take the case off here folks, everything works and is compatible just fine. Then again, you won't be taking it off very often if at all. Why you ask? Read on for the answer.

Short and simple, this case is literally impossible to remove from the iPhone 4. Once installed, I went through so much pain and suffering trying to get the case of the phone. Even the strongest forces of pulling was not nearly enough to get the case off. I just ended up damaging both the case and me in the end. I found the best way to get this off is too slide a fingernail in between the points where the case connects and pull upwards. Finally, after about ten minutes of bent and hurt fingernails, sore thumbs, and frustration, I was able to get the case off. As much as I hate to point out every negative aspect of a product, it's my job to be as unbiased as possible and point out what's good and bad about a product. Anyway, let's move on.

This case also has some major watermarking issues. I installed the case without a backside screen protector, and while it wasn't exactly perfect (there were still some very tiny watermarks in the corner) it was enough to make me try on the back protector to see if that would help. Bad move, the backside protector made it about ten times worst. After a few minutes of putting the case on with the backside screen protector, watermarks would show up everywhere and would not go away at all. That's not very pretty for the sexy iPhone 4's back.

Last but not least, this case does bubble the screen shield. Just like almost any other case that comes with protectors, I always install them to get the full affect. After putting on ID America's screen protector (the screen protectors are of very good quality by the way) and installing the case, bubbles started to show up everywhere, in the corners, sides, bottom, and front. I tried to smooth out some of the bubbles with a credit card, but alas, to no avail.

Before we wrap up, I would like to do a quick write up of the screen protectors, one of my favorite add ons. Installation was very easy and if you would like to know how I go about installing my shields, you can refer to some of my past reviews. Everything lined up perfectly, the front camera, the speaker grill, and the home button cutout were right on the money. After a few days of use I did not notice any scratches or scuffs. Also, I lost no touch sensitivity and the screen was absolutely crystal clear. So far, the included screen protectors have been absolutely fantastic and are an amazing addition to the case since these could easily hold its own against some other high end companies like Power Support and SGP.

Overall, I cannot recommend the Ice & Dry Ice. They have a plethora of problems and while they do look quite cool equipped on an iPhone 4, the major problems overpower the coolness and for me, make for what appears to be an unfinished product. It's too bad this case was released so early, as it had so much potential. If most of the issues can be worked out, these may have a fighting choice. For now, they just flat out aren't good. You can pick up the Dry Ice and the Ice for $19.99 on ID America's website. Click in the link to find out more.

    Rating: 2.5/5

Sources are only required for statements of fact, or statements that are intended to be fact. Opinions are still allowed.

One thing people still often forget is to clearly separate what is their opinion and what is their statement based on facts. At least I face it sometimes that people first talk about facts and then add their opinion without adding any sign of it being just their opinion (like IMO, just my two cents etc).

On great example is from 2010 MBA speculation when some folks typed in caps lock and then few posts after told that it was just their opinion. Errr...you don't have to post your opinions in caps lock, do you? It also lacked a sign of it being just an opinion. Things like these start flame wars, stating your opinion as a fact. If you simply say it's your opinion, then all people can do is disagree. We are all entitled to have our own opinion.

IMO, it might be worth it to add a line to state that when in debate, it is advisable to clearly separate what is your statement based on facts/sources and what is just your own opinion. Not in every thread of course but when the threads is clearly a debate thread where facts and opinions may easily be mixed without proper notation.

I pre-ordered my copy, but who can pass up on an opportunity to hang out with other Mac fanatics. I mean, I can't. Also, the possibility of free Leopard T-Shirt? Just icing on the cake. I'll be there around 4:30 or so @ Green Hills. Funny to think the last OS release I went to was at 'ol MacAuthority.

KeithPratt makes the very valid point that every mp4 isn't equal and it is quite possible to make a video from an HD file that is too complex to read by some machines.

Also, an m4v is simply an mp4 with a different extension. Change the file name from X.m4v to X.mp4 and it will play better on some equipment. Handbrake allows you to choose which extension you prefer, but you can always change the the extension after you've encoded the file.

You might also ask your clients to install a program called VLC, which is excellent at playing a wide variety of file types.

Thx for the help. I will try to change to MP4, instead of M4V. I still dont understand how some files would play, and some not, when I've used the same presets?? Is there any way that I can get complete codec-compression info off of the files now? Just to double-check if they differ in any way?

I would like to at least see the option of playing movies on it (think video podcast)

But the real deal breaker for me was the lack of a physical pause button. I don't want to have to grab the nano, turn it on, aim for the pause button, before I can hear the outside world.

You can set the power button double-tap option to pause/play the current song with the latest firmware.

Alternatively, the remote add-ons work with the nano 6th gen.

I have to agree with the OP. Most of the front end features such as Launchpad and three+ finger multigestures are from iOS. Sure there are some tweaks under the hood, but for desktop/professional users of OS X, I need power refinement not cute little icons that wiggle. Leave that **** to the iOS kiddies and focus on OS X. The only thing Apple is doing is dumbing down OS X to make it easier for the iDevice groupies to move into laptop systems or an iMac.

Apple doesn't give two ****'s about us professionals who kept them from folding during their chapter 11 days in the 90's before Jobs came back. It's all about consumer market share, making their products in Taiwan now and $50+ billion in cash reserves.

I only just got the Wii. :( Should I have listened to IGN when they kept claiming the Wii is dead?
Regardless of new systems coming out (or what stupid IGN says), the Wii is still a very fun system. I mean, hell, I still play games on my N64 and Dreamcast quite often, and even my SNES as well. Just because a system isn't "New" anymore doesn't mean it is all of a sudden broken and worthless. There are a lot of fun games on the Wii. Enjoy them.

    Good point.

I still haven't finished Ocarina of Time (GC version played on the Wii) and then I've got Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword.

Only concern is how long Wii online will stay online.

Colors are awesome, Really noisy though.. I'm not a professional photographer but *I think* if you lowered your ISO and increased your Aperture that would help fix it?

I'm probably wrong so don't think I'm acting as a know it all, I'm just suggesting what I think might help.

Otherwise, Great angle and really cool shot anyway!

Maybe his lens wont go any wider? adjusting the aperture would also alter the depth of field!

Nice shot! :) Wel composed! :)
